In recent years Tama Plaza has been in the spotlight as being a hot date location. The large scale shopping mall was constructed as part of the train station redevelopment, and is home to many stylish cafes and restaurants. Walk away from the station and you will find the quiet, tree-lined streets of the residential area. This particular area was modeled after the garden suburbs in London, its large residences and open spaces working in harmony to create a townscape that wouldn’t be out of place in a Hollywood movie.

The location has great public transport access and Shibuya can be reached in 20 minutes without changing trains on the Denentoshi line. The building itself was formerly a newspaper company on the 1F with a company dormitory above. It has now been renovated into 65-room large scale sharehouse, and the look of the intentionally rough interior is very different from its exterior. At first glance it seems like the kind of house that would appeal to men, but upon closer inspection one finds its European touches and floral arrangements to create a unique elegance.

What’s more, the house is filled with all kinds of ‘toys’ and facilities for the mature adult to play with. Residents of this house discover a belonging here and thrive in the excitement it offers.

If you want to know what I’m talking about, read on!

The brains behind this project, Share Design, specialise in large scale sharehouses and interior design. Each one of their houses is unique in concept and design. Share Residence Tama Plaza is dedicated to fun, a concept which is incorporated throughout the house and it’s design. The idea is for communication to grow through residents having fun and enjoying themselves in the house.

The staff at this company all have skills in different areas. With a former pilot, musician and jazz dancer on board, you may be lucky enough to sit in on a lecture on these topics and more using the facilities in the house.

Teach others what you know, and learn from them what you don’t. With this kind of reciprocal environment in the house, everyday is bound to be full of exciting times. Would you fit in here?

A new sharehouse supporting the lifestyles of women in Joto-ku, Osaka!

This female-exclusive sharehouse is in Midoribashi.
Midoribashi isn’t one of those famous places in Osaka everyone has heard of, however it could be called one of Osaka’s well-kept-secrets and there does exist quite a few sharehouses in the area to attest to this. Let’s first talk a bit about Midoribashi.
The area around Midoribashi station has all the things one needs, including a supermarket and hospital, and a 10-minute bicycle ride takes you to places like the symbol of Osaka, Osaka Castle Park, shopping center Morinomiya Q’s Mall BASE. The Umeda and Namba areas are 5 to 6 km away, or a good 30 minute bike ride. Two train lines service the local station, the Chuo Line and the Imazatosuji Line, making Midoribashi a great place from which to get to anywhere in the city relatively stress free. /p>

Golden House Midoribashi is genuinely a house made with the comfort of female residents in mind.
True to expectations of a female-only sharehouse, I found this one to be very beautiful and clean when I went over to check it out. While the same can be said for all newly constructed properties, what’s special about this house is that its practical design and functionality you can imagine what your life will be like living here immediately. The house is close to the city, yet the area around the house is quiet and serene. Sharehouses focused on things like communication and self-actualization are on the rise lately, however one can’t forget the importance of design and functionality in one’s life. When you think about it, sharehouses are actually a rare kind of property. Golden House Midoribashi has taken what everyone looks for in a one room apartment and created the perfect living environment. If this has gotten you interested, don’t hesitate to take yourself over there and check out the house. While you’re there you should walk around Midoribashi. You’ll be able to imagine yourself living there right away.

Let’s take a closer look at the property.

Golden House Midoribashi is also a newly-constructed house that provides a safe, comfortable environment for women. We were lucky enough to meet the owner of the house, who is an Osaka man through and through and very easy to talk to. He loves Osaka greatly and that’s why he is in the know about the best places to live in the city. What a wonderful thing it is to be able to do what do love in the place you love.

We live in a bustling, ever-changing era. The spread of the internet has greatly changed the way we live our lives and run our businesses, and our concept of time has altered.

Nevertheless, it is because we are within this whirlpool of intense change that we are attracted to the constant. We see this inside ourselves, swayed not by the times and current fashions, being made to think about universality and reaffirm who we are.

In this article we will look at D Share Jiyugaoka, a renovated sharehouse in an approximately 50-year old vintage building that has stands in Okusawa, Setagaya-ku.

Although it’s edgy decor gives the impression of a cool, male-oriented space, this is actually a female-exclusive sharehouse with an interior to be appreciated by any design enthusiast.

Let’s move on and have a look inside the house!

What does the color white make you think of? Undoubtedly many of you would say clean, pure and simple. We are surrounded by many different colors in our daily lives, and while we enjoy this, there is something about coming home to the simple shade of white that allows us to regain presence of mind.

The sharehouse we are showcasing today is exactly that – a clean and simple house encased in white, allthewhile having a luxuriousness to it, resulting in the perfect place to come home to. This is a female-exclusive house and the living rooms on the 3rd and 4th floors have been decorated in a different style to each other.

’Sharehouse’ is a word that has come to be heard frequently in recent years, being in the spotlight on television and in other forms of media. Although his word has become increasingly familiar with the general public, at the same time there are a many different ideas of what a sharehouse is floating around out there.

Many people worry about privacy and think living in a sharehouse would be tiresome, however the staff running these houses are always brainstorming and implementing ideas for their residents to be able to maintain privacy as well as enjoy their time within the house.

Finest Kamada in particular boasts large living areas, bathrooms as well as private rooms with enough space that residents won’t have trouble maintaining their privacy at all. Not to mention that the brains behind this project is the company Fine Select, professionals in the industry with many female-exclusive sharehouses to their name. I personally got the impression that this house has been created with residents’ privacy in mind.

It’s up to you what kind of life you will lead in this pure white house with it’s brilliant yet at first unexpected shade. Imagine a life of new encounters with this as your backdrop!

Choosing a place to live is a series of ongoing compromises. It is often said that the closer to the city, the more compromises and concessions one must make.

That said, when thinking about moving house it is natural to want a place more comfortable and closer to work than where you live in currently.

Today we will introduce to you Cocoro Mejiro, a female-exclusive sharehouse in Shinjuku. The house is on the 10th floor, the top floor of the building, however by using the elevator there will be inconveniences. There are no other tall buildings around and you can gaze out over the city from the house balcony.

Housing a maximum of 6 tenants, this house has ample space for all and examples of its functionality can be found throughout. It would be much more enjoyable imagining a life here than dealing with the reality of making compromises with another property.

Without further ado let’s have a look inside this comfortable city residence!!

Managing this house is Arco Design Works. The manager worked for a company designing hotels and houses before breaking away to go independent and now develops houses with design and convenience in mind. The ‘Cocoro’ series of sharehouses are unified by a consistent theme, characterized by solid birch wood flooring, IDEE furniture and the use of mosaic tiling within the house.

Talking with the manager I could just tell that every last detail had been taken into consideration. In regards to storage, for example, he says that if tenants are not allowed to keep personal items in the common areas then a suitable storage area must be provided elsewhere. And sure enough, what surprised me the most when visiting the house myself was of course the design of the common areas, but also its functionality and storage facilities.

Storage facilities are not just random empty spaces around the house, but arranged specifically in places upon consideration of the tenant’s daily lives and in easy-to-use positions. Because of this, residents will become accustomed to using something then putting it back in its place immediately.

This is perhaps due to the knowledge gained from years of experience managing other sharehouses, however I do believe that all of the trial and error in making houses in the past has lead to this house being as charming as it is.

While rules and established routines are also important, a great community is sure to blossom in a residence built in a way that helps residents to keep things neat and tidy without a second thought.

The present and future of Share Place Higashi Kanagawa 99, 3 months since its grand opening.

“A small town of 99 people.” Since first hearing this catchphrase from ReBITA’s project coordinator I’d made my way over to the property many times before it opened. The property and location are very enticing, and I wondered what would happen when 99 people started to live here, each time indulging my imagination the entire way back to the station from the house.

It’s been three months since the grand opening, and people of all different walks of life have begun to gather at Share Place Higashi Kanagawa (hereafter SPH99), and the tenants who had never met each other prior to moving in have started their new shared lifestyles together.

I headed on over to the property once more after receiving the opportunity to interview the people actually living in the house. During the interview we spoke about the current conditions of SPH99 and the kind of lifestyles these tenants wish to create for themselves in the future.

A building’s design and its facilities are important when interested in or considering living in a share house, however there are also those worrying about what shared living is actually like and what kind of people are living in them. If this sounds like you, then read on.

Without further ado, onto the interview!

These tenants graciously agreed to an interview. Everyone had great personalities and we were able to have a nice, long conversation.

I’ve always liked making sweets, but I could never finish eating them all when I was living alone. Living in a share house your housemates can help you eat them and it’s a good feeling when someone says something you have made tastes good.
Tips for getting along with housemates

—As the name implies, this is a large-scale share property to house 99 people. Do you have any advice on how to get to know others for those first-timers or those thinking about moving in?

Ms. Watchi

I don’t think there is any need to worry about it because everyone is welcoming towards new housemates. It might be nerveracking to move in at first, but everyone has experienced the same thing. So all you have to do is take that first step and you’ll soon be great friends with everyone.

—Could you give us an example?

Ms. Watchi

Hm… well, if you bring a small gift for everyone when you move in everyone will come to you without you having to make the first move! (laughs)

—I see. Lure them in with food, right? (laughs) But I think it’s a great idea and something you can do straight away. What about you, Mr. Koto?

Mr. Koto

Definitely greetings. Not just to be polite, but because communication often stems from those first initial greetings, and I don’t think anyone is going to be upset by a hello. I myself love hearing ‘welcome home’ when I get back from work, so I think greetings are really important.

Sitting on the sofa and chatting naturally brings other people to the room. When people pass by they wave and exchange greetings.

I really liked the look furniture in the living room and actually looking at it close up it may be a bit cheap, but the house is the real deal. As expected of ReBIYA. (laughs) The house is located right in the middle of Yokohama so I recommend it for those who really want to experience this city. Even out running you can experience of the sights and sounds of Yokohama and even the central business district, Minato Mirai. You feel proud that you live here. (laughs)

—It’s interesting that everyone finds appeal in different places. Living here is like that nursery rhyme ‘I wonder if I can make 100 friends’, isn’t it, because you can gain heaps of friends in no time at all.

—Sounds like fun! How do you go about letting everyone know about these events?

Mr. Koto

How many colors in a rainbow? We Japanese would probably say 7. From a global perspective, however, there aren’t that many cultures that recognise a rainbow as having 7 colors. The majority of the world see it as 5 or 6 colors, or even less.

The Japanese are said to have long had a rich sense of color. According to the Dictionary of Japanese Colors there are 465 words to express color in Japanese. This of course includes colors we have never heard of before but surely have come across in our daily lives. It wouldn’t be such a bad thing to tap into in our sense of color amidst a lifestyle surrounded by those colors we are not usually conscious of.

There is no point to an uncomfortable life. Today we will introduce to you Share Residence Motosumiyoshi, a simple house accented by colorful furniture and wallpaper. The base, however, is a simple white. The furniture, set against this blank canvas, creates a stylish and playful atmosphere.

Nearby the house you’ll find a bustling shopping street with everything you need including fast food restaurants, a supermarket and even a convenience store. Heading into the city is no problem with Yokohama 15 minutes and Shibuya 20 minutes away. The house stands in a quiet residential area with a terrace from which you can look up and take in the bright blue sky.

You’re sure to find a plethora of colors within this house. Let’s have a peek inside, shall we?

The houses we live in change according to our tastes. Living in a sharehouse, you will also be influenced by those around you. And of course, there will be times where we’ll discover things we’ve never seen before because of the people we live with, not only in the living environment but within the house community also.

Share Residence Motosumiyoshi is a sharehouse brightened by the management’s use of color throughout. The company, Share Design, have really pulled out all the stops to make their houses interesting and you could even go so far as to call them the artisans of sharehouses.

The message of these artisans of wanting the house community and tenants themselves to fill their lives with color can not just be seen in the furniture, but hidden throughout the entire house.

The sound of a streetcar bell takes you back to the days of old in the elegant neighborhood of Minowa. Located right between Ueno and Kitasenju, as soon as you step off the train you are transported into a shopping district straight out of the Showa period.Through the arcade on the other side lies an old town that once evening, bustles with people drinking at coffee shops, housewifes shopping for ingredients for dinner and students making their way home from school.

Maison de Minowa is a share house 5-minutes walk from Minowa station on the Hibiya line, a subdued building hidden amongst a neighborhood of traditional old wooden houses.

Heading inside we are greeted with a vibrant dining room so different from the look of exterior that will amuse you. This house combines elements of Japanese house design with a modern twist to create a contemporary dwelling that won’t take any time getting used to and provides much comfort to residents.

So without delay let’s introduce the rooms!

The management of this house, Fine Select, takes care of many other female-exclusive properties so we know that not only do they assist women in living safe and comfortably, they also maintain a kind of interior design that makes being in the house fun. The staff are also female and because of this are able to think about things from the viewpoint of the female tenants.

The simple white rooms have been built in contrast to the bright colors of the dining room, making it possible to decorate your own space however you please. This consideration is because the staff know that a woman’s taste changes over time. Perhaps bright in the summer, monochrome in the winter. You just can’t help but imagine the possibilities of a room that transforms with a girls state of mind.

Wandering about the neighborhood you’ll feel soothed by the traditional atmosphere and bustle of the shopping district that still stands as it had during the Showa period, a hidden refuge from the city.
