In relation to Japan’s impressive progress to globalization, people’s demand to acquire international skills or connections is becoming higher. I myself have been aware of the desire to speak English, to at least communicate with foreigners easily.
New generation typed share house is a renovated apartment.

In most cases, share houses are renovation of stand-alone house or company house, but this one is different. This share house is renovation of several rooms of apartment and utilizes the 1 floor space as its living room, which used to be a gathering space for all apartment residents. There are several rooms for people to share as it can provide living space for up to 52 residents in total. The nearest station Makuhari Hongou in Chiba prefecture is close to central part of Tokyo so you may commute without a big problem. If you take the Soubu line, it takes about 40 minutes to Akibahara station, and 35 minutes to Tokyo station. Good news for workers commuting near Chiba station, it only takes 13 minutes to get there.

There are two positive aspects of the Kizunaya share house; first is that there’s plenty of opportunity to communicate with foreigners without going abroad, and second is that you can widen your relationship with other Kizunaya group share house residents. I heard that foreigners from various countries have already joined as a member of the share house. Kizunaya share house has its’ share house in Tokyo, Chiba, Osaka, and Amami (in Kagoshima). Usually communication concludes in the share house you live in, but Kizunaya considers all area residents as one group. Therefore, gathering events of all areas are held once in a while and they say that this helps residents become like a relatives.

“Kizunaya share house –Global HUB-”, the attractive share house which enables people to interact with foreigners naturally in daily life and help you study as if you’re in abroad. Why don’t you take a chance to acquire international relation as part of your daily life?

In the past 5 to 6 years the popularity of shared living has spread and sharehouses have quietly taken hold in Japan as a style of living. We live in a time where people can live in high class dwellings by sharing the property and its costs with others.

Sharehouse properties are not just increasing year by year – they are also transforming into houses that meet the lifestyle needs of their residents as well as adapting to the demand for interaction among housemates. Now, increasing importance is being placed on the residents themselves. There are many different types of sharehouses, each with their own concept, and the concept of a house will draw in like minded people. There are also many other factors that appeal to different types of people, including location, rent price and the house management system.

The property we will showcase today is not only spectacular in location and interior design, it is also a house where residents can expect quality interaction and new learning experiences. The sharehouse is located in Minato-ku’s high class residential district, Azabu-Juban. Azabu-Juban is an elegant area with a global atmosphere, right next to the foreign embassies and investment companies of Roppongi and Azabu. Nearby Azabu-Juban station is serviced by both the Toei Oedo line and the Tokyo Metro Nanboku line. Shinjuku, Ginza and Shibuya stations can be reached in around 15-minutes, and there is also a direct line to Meguro and Nagatacho. Roppongi Hills Mori Tower can be seen from the sharehouse windows, and Tokyo Midtown is an easy walk away.

Arden Motoazabu stands modestly on a quiet street 8-minutes walk from Azabu-Toban station. Once an embassy dormitory, the property has been renovated into a sharehouse and with its western-style exterior, at first glance does not seem to be a sharehouse at all. Mai is with me today as we take you through the house!

In recent years Tama Plaza has been in the spotlight as being a hot date location. The large scale shopping mall was constructed as part of the train station redevelopment, and is home to many stylish cafes and restaurants. Walk away from the station and you will find the quiet, tree-lined streets of the residential area. This particular area was modeled after the garden suburbs in London, its large residences and open spaces working in harmony to create a townscape that wouldn’t be out of place in a Hollywood movie.

The location has great public transport access and Shibuya can be reached in 20 minutes without changing trains on the Denentoshi line. The building itself was formerly a newspaper company on the 1F with a company dormitory above. It has now been renovated into 65-room large scale sharehouse, and the look of the intentionally rough interior is very different from its exterior. At first glance it seems like the kind of house that would appeal to men, but upon closer inspection one finds its European touches and floral arrangements to create a unique elegance.

What’s more, the house is filled with all kinds of ‘toys’ and facilities for the mature adult to play with. Residents of this house discover a belonging here and thrive in the excitement it offers.

If you want to know what I’m talking about, read on!

The brains behind this project, Share Design, specialise in large scale sharehouses and interior design. Each one of their houses is unique in concept and design. Share Residence Tama Plaza is dedicated to fun, a concept which is incorporated throughout the house and it’s design. The idea is for communication to grow through residents having fun and enjoying themselves in the house.

The staff at this company all have skills in different areas. With a former pilot, musician and jazz dancer on board, you may be lucky enough to sit in on a lecture on these topics and more using the facilities in the house.

Teach others what you know, and learn from them what you don’t. With this kind of reciprocal environment in the house, everyday is bound to be full of exciting times. Would you fit in here?

I’m gazing over a running river in front of me and facing a lush green knoll. The scene for today’s article is Seiseki-Sakuragaoka in the west of Tokyo. Seiseki-Sakuragaoka is known among Ghibli fans as the location the movie ‘Whisper of the Heart’ was modeled on, and you can catch glimpses of areas featured in the movie everywhere you look. There is a film location map in front of the station and the area is gaining popularity as a place to enjoy walking.

At the end of March the company Rebita, with many large-scale sharehouses underneath it’s belt, has newly opened the 108-room sharehouse ‘SharePlace Seiseki-Sakuragaoka’ in this lushly green commuter town.

The theme of the house is ‘share living amongst the trees’ and the interior comes together with the warmth of its natural design. Inside the space is decorated with plants and trees, recreating the liveliness of nature.

A place that houses 108 residents might not seem to go hand in hand with a relaxed atmosphere, however there is no need to worry as this house has been designed in a way that everyone can enjoy themselves in its mellow environment at their own pace.

Let’s waste no time and have a look at this Spring’s noteworthy large-scale sharehouse in great detail!

Taking care of SharePlace Seiseki-Sakuragaoka is the company Rebita. They handle many large-scale sharehouses converted from company employee dormitories, creating completely new living spaces while respecting the history of the building, and whenever we go to check out one of their new properties we are always surprised to see what they have come up with.

The company often looks to a building’s surroundings as inspiration and incorporates it into its interior. SharePlace Seiseki-Sakuragaoka in particular has a river running languidly in front of the house and an abundance of lush greenery behind it, and as such its interior has a natural design with warm, wooden detailing.

This is a shared lifestyle for 108 people living amongst nature as time passes slowly by.

Enjoy life as you please without any inhibitions. This is the place for you to laugh together with other residents as you understand and support each other, maintaining just the right amount of personal space.

Izu Oshima is 120 kilometres south of Tokyo and 25 kilometres south-east from the Izu peninsula. The island is administered by the Tokyo Metropolitan government and as such considered a suburb of Tokyo.

The entire island is an active volcano and Mt. Mihara, situated in the centre of the island, is the volcanic cone which has been formed by volcanic activity.

The moment we heard of the opening of a sharehouse on the largest of the Izu islands we wanted to check it out. However, it’s not as if you can just pop over on the train, so we went for 3 days to make the most out of the trip and see the entire island as well.

While we were there we were honored to be shown around the island by the staff of Sharehouse Itadori and the locals. We learned a lot about the history and way of life of the island and through meeting and interacting with the local residents we came to understand the community that is cultivated there.

I had never been to Izu Oshima before, and I’d now like to share my own experiences living at Itadori Sharehouse and getting a feel for island life with you all.

Without further ado, let’s get on with the article!

Itadori Sharehouse is an elegant 3-room single storey house making the most of its original structure.

There is also a large garden outside, and with the house itself sitting at the back of the property you can enjoy yourselves to your hearts content without being worried about making too much noise, having BBQs or even Nagashi Somen (noodles placed in a long flume of bamboo for diners to pick up with their chopsticks as they flow past).

Staying here a few days I found the locals to be warm and friendly, and I was able to experience exquisite surroundings and listen to the calls of unfamiliar birds and animals. I suppose I was even more aware of these things being away from the familiarities of home.

Now then, my journey begins on a ferry. There are two ports on the island, Motomachi and Okada, their use depending on the weather and ocean conditions of each day. As such, travellers do not know which port they will arrive at until the day of departure. Incidentally, I ended up at Okada Port.

As soon as I arrived I received a call from the manager of Itadori asking whether or not I had made it in one piece, his casual-style consideration very heartwarming.

I then headed off to my destination, the sharehouse. I walked along nervously wondering if there really was a house in such a remote location…

There was indeed a house, and I arrived safe and sound. Apparently all first-time guests get a little bit of a surprise when they come here. As you can see, the lot is large with just a house sitting on the land, but the surrounding garden is part of the property. Yes, that means you can use it however you please.

The house is surrounded by nature and tenants can enjoy a variety of recreational activities. Living here is quite the luxury.

Arriving at the house fatigued by my journey, I first sit down to rest and look around at the view. The lovely folks in the photograph are Itadori KK staff members. They are based in the centre of the island and work under the principle of making every corner of the country fun and enjoyable for others.

As I was resting I heard the roar of an automobile engine cut through the silence, and out steps Haru. Haru is a local and works as Itadori’s island advisor. He is ever the island boy with his friendly, relaxed personality.

After a brief introduction we hop in his car and head off in search of food.

It’s really fun deciding what to make for dinner and choosing all the ingredients together. The local supermarket on the island sells a good range of groceries and daily necessities.

We decided on curry. It’s always curry when everyone gets together to make something though, isn’t it? Brings back memories of camping in my schoolboy days.

While chatting with Haru I was suddenly invited to a baseball game to be held the following day, and accepted the invitation to watch the locals play.

The next day I headed to the ballpark and was met with a brilliant view exceeding all expectations.

Seeing such an unbelievably beautiful sight right before my own eyes was definitely one of the highlights of the trip.

There are apparently 20 volunteer teams on the island, playing tournaments in the spring and league matches in autumn. Players are also transferred from team to team, just like the professional league, and one could just imagine this to be the perfect backdrop for a myriad of novels and dramas.

Haru’s team, the Motomachi Mets, won the match 13-2 in what was their first ever victory. Congratulations!

I was surprised to learn than former Yakult Swallows first-string players were among those playing today, too.

After the match I was shown around the island. This place is called Sanohama. We unexpectedly ran into someone Haru knows up here. It seems everyone is a neighbor when you live on an island.

The view is exhilarating. New tenants will be shown around the sights, too, which is something to be thankful for as it’s quite hard to truly experience the essence of the island.

The Itadori staff seem to be mesmerized by the brilliance of the ocean.

Exchanging words through the window is just another part of the everyday island lifestyle, but to me, on the outside looking in, it is something spectacular.

We found a cute little cat on the side of the road! Cats are often found near the ocean on Izu Oshima island.

Here are the Motomachi Mets, the baseball team from earlier! We joined in on their victory celebrations.

Everyone is really friendly and fun to be around. I really felt the team had a great relationship with each other, calling everyone by their nicknames regardless of age.

The Motomachi Mets captain. What a great smile. The best thing about Izu Oshima is the people.

We were then shown around the area damaged by last year’s typhoon by the boss of Itadori, Mr. Aiko. The island recorded their largest documented rainfall at that time with 824 milliliters of rain, and even now the residents are still traumatized by the disaster. With that in mind, Itadori is working towards breathing new life into the community here.

On my last day I went with Mr. Endo, the leader of the support project Pikari, to a meeting about turning a to-be-demolished house into a sharehouse. I believe that with the cooperation of the island folk it will develop into a lively house welcoming many different people to the town.

If this article has piqued your interest in Izu Oshima then you should definitely visit the area for yourself. Once you’re there, don’t just indulge in your surroundings but reach out a friendly hand and get to know the locals.

You’re sure to experience more than this article could ever introduce to you. Your breath will be taken away by the unique, natural landscapes here, and by seeing the aftermath of the typhoon you will also appreciate the ferociousness of mother nature.
Watching the locals it is obvious that they are strong and proud people.

Itadori’s sharehouse is the place to connect you with amazing encounters and experiences like these, and by living here you are sure to experience the island in a way you couldn’t even imagine from being just a tourist.

I’m sure there are many of you who are unaware that you can get to Izu Oshima from Tokyo. You can, and now that you know I hope you make the trip to the island to visit time and time again.

The residents of the island are sure you welcome you warmly and allow you to integrate into the community and experience the island life.

A place where one can bask in the sunlight, breath deeply and relax.

Imagine that pure-like ambiance between midnight and early morning when there aren’t too many people out and about. Imagine going camping on the outskirts of town and welcoming the new day with nature all around you. You can get a nice, fresh start to the day by yawning loudly and stretching your arms up to the sky above, naturally releasing the stress built up throughout the week in your body you didn’t even know that you had.

If you want to experience mornings like these in your everyday life, however, both where you live and the environment within are very important. So, we introduce to you today Wabisabi House off Jiyugaoka, a newly constructed sharehouse by Designer’s House located in a residential area surrounded by lush nature despite being in the middle of the city.

The house is located in Setagaya’s Fukusawa. Fukusawa is known as a quiet, lush high-class residential area said to be home to the houses of many famous Japanese celebrities. Wabisabi House has been designed for easy navigation and is surrounded by nature with cherry blossom trees growing near the entrance and a natural lawn maintained around the house. The interior uses undressed concrete as a base, smartly combined with wooden floorboards and matched with the kind of furniture that makes you feel like you’re outdoors.

It is most certainly a rare address in which one can experience all that nature has to offer right in the middle of the city.

Let’s get on with it and have a look inside this house in lush Fukusawa!!

Looking after this sharehouse is the company Wabisabi House. The staff member in charge of the property has backpacked around the world and has experience living in a sharehouse overseas. Because of this, they are able to manage from a tenant’s point of view and with events held periodically they are not just concerned with providing a comfortable environment to live in but in creating a close-knit community also.

The percentage of non-Japanese tenants in this company’s sharehouses is comparatively high, great for those wanting to live together with people from all over the world.

This particular house has been newly constructed, finally reaching completion after one year from the planning stage and through a lot of trial and error. They also have general, non-sharehouse rooms for rent, where you can enjoy mingling with everyone else in the building while relaxing on the wide, open terrace. The owner also owns the apartment next door, and opportunities for meeting new people abound beyond those sharing the same house with you.

If you are living a busy, fast-paced lifestyle, you definitely need to check out this laidback atmosphere within the city where time seems slows down.

Looking back on my own ordinary life, there are times I am surprised at how little time was set aside for pursuing hobbies. I would often come home from school or work exhausted, falling into a deep sleep. It’s quite difficult to relax or spend time doing things you like to do unless it’s your day off, don’t you agree?

Recently concept sharehouses have been popping up all over the place as a way to solve this problem, with houses equipped with a music studio for people into music and houses with their own golf courses for people who like golfing.

However, there must be more than a few of you out there who want to meet and interact with people of all occupations with different hobbies, who want to make connections as well as more time for their own hobbies. The house we will introduce to you today, Share Residence Miyazakidai, gives us a combination of these two concepts.

Within the house there is a living room with its own bar to enjoy, a lounge room to relax in, a soundproof studio with drumkit, a fitness room and even a golf course. With such diverse needs catered for, you can ensure time for your own interests as well as get to know a lot of different kinds of people.

The house is in a great location with local Miyazakidai station just 22 minutes to Shibuya and Mizonokuchi station with its bustling shopping street two stations away.

Let’s go on in and have a look inside the sharehouse that is the ideal house for many different people!

There are times when we meet people at work or in our private lives that have a multitude of interests. When talking with these people, who have made room in their lives for the things they like to do, we often adopt their outlook on life and end up longing for the same thing ourselves. We also think that people who stick with and are serious about just one hobby are quite amazing.

It’s fairly difficult to pursue or broaden interests by ourselves in our everyday lives. Stepping outside of our comfort zone and discovering new things brings passion and a higher level of interest, and by doing so we are often surprised that things aren’t so far from home after all. I believe I have found the place to experience both passion and surprise side by side here at Share Residence Miyazakidai.

Share your interests with others, and in turn discover theirs. Doing so will broaden both parties minds and create something to share. Before you know it you’ll be immersing yourself in the hobbies of that person with the multitude of interests, as well as that person who focuses on just one. You may end up meeting many new people through these new interests.

The place to do exactly this is Share Residence Miyazakidai. With spring on the way, take the first step towards a new passion.

Life in the city. Life in the suburbs. If we had to choose, right now we’d definitely choose life in the heart of the city.

But as someone who comes from that area, I think the peace and quiet of the suburbs isn’t an idea to be discarded quickly. If only there was a place inside the city but without the crowds, some refuge where I could feel relieved. That’s what I’ve always wanted.

Having said that, even though I wanted to live in a highly convenient location—that’s also quiet and rich with natural beauty—I had a hard time finding a place I liked. I began to think that my ideal home was impossible to find, and it would remain a dream after all.

On that note, I’d like to introduce this share house: “Hill Terrace”, a woman-only share house where you can experience the calm, leisurely lifestyle of the suburbs while living in the heart of the city. From the closest station, Akabane Sta., you have easy access to terminal stations like Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ikebukuro, Ueno, and Tokyo. The house is just a 6 minute walk from the station. Standing in a good spot, you’re surrounded by a garden that feels just like a country cottage on a plateau, with tall trees and a nice view from a high elevation. Sometimes, birds and raccoons even stop by for a visit.

In addition, the gardens—spread all the way to the roof—are a wonderful place to watch the changing seasons. I hear it even overlooks the town of Akabane; it’s truly an urban oasis.

Just what kind of mansion is this? Well, let’s go and take a look inside!
