“How about going to cooking classes?”, “Wait, should I first work out at a gym?”, “Or maybe, try piano lessons”, “Hmm…Always wanted to go take English classes”. These ideas may come to your mind, but it is not easy to actually take an action. Even when you do so, it’ pretty hard to keep up the new habit. Then, what can we do? Not realistic proposal to just take a leap and go abroad to study English, is it? When you’re out of option, please consider moving into a share house.

Share houses today are quiet fascinating, with fulfilling facilities you would never imagine with singular living. It attracts various types of residents which makes your life even more stimulating. You can even expect meeting someone with expertise you’re willing to learn, or someone to share interests with. If so, wouldn’t it be fun to continue new challenges? The share house I’m introducing to you today is called “Share Residence MUSACO”, with accommodation of 65 people. It is the latest work of Share Design Inc., the company running over 20 share houses in the cities around Tokyo.

Share Residence MUSACO is 10 minutes’ walk from the nearest station called Musashi-Nakahara of JR Nambu line. Next to it is Musashi-Kosugi station, a door way to the crowded redeveloping city. Changing lines there, it only takes 20 minutes to Shibuya and 32 minutes to Shinjuku. Very convenient to access to the cities in Tokyo. Before explaining the house, let’s take a look at the surrounding environment!

Newly built high tower apartments and large scaled shopping malls are being constructed. It is one of the most notable redeveloping towns in Japan. Share Residence MUSACO is one station away from this place. You can never avoid using the Musashi-Kosugi station since it’s where you transfer lines going to cities like Shinjuku, Shibuya, or Shinagawa. You can take either Tokyu-Toyoko line or JR Shonan-Shinjuku line to Shinjuku, Shibuya, and Yokohama. If going to the Shinagawa area, take JR Yokosuka-line.
How did you like it? Today, I introduced you Share Residence MUSACO. The ideas of Share Design Inc. always surprise me, creating share houses you have never seen before with unusual concepts! The fun and unique experiences will melt your heart.

Here, they are planning to invite foreign internship students from abroad, bringing diversity to the member of the house. I was shocked to hear from the CEO that purpose of constructing club lounge is to provide opportunity to get along with each other. He said that “everyone can be friends without talking at the club”. Starting with non-verbal communication, you may end up learning other languages from foreign residents.

People change when either “The place you’re in”, “How you use your time”, or “the people you hang out with” changes. Share Residence MUSACO will change all three of them dramatically and may help find the new you. Spend time doing new things in your new home, meet people you have never had a chance talking, and eventually, dig up your hidden personality. Share Residence MUSACO is the perfect place to fulfill your mind.

New generation typed share house is a renovated apartment.

In most cases, share houses are renovation of stand-alone house or company house, but this one is different. This share house is renovation of several rooms of apartment and utilizes the 1 floor space as its living room, which used to be a gathering space for all apartment residents. There are several rooms for people to share as it can provide living space for up to 52 residents in total. The nearest station Makuhari Hongou in Chiba prefecture is close to central part of Tokyo so you may commute without a big problem. If you take the Soubu line, it takes about 40 minutes to Akibahara station, and 35 minutes to Tokyo station. Good news for workers commuting near Chiba station, it only takes 13 minutes to get there.

How did you like it? We reported the “Kizunaya share house –Global HUB-” run by Kizunabito Inc. The feature is that you can retain your privacy according to the wide sharing space, thanks to the size of the house. You are able to spend your free time wherever and whenever you want.

There are two positive aspects of the Kizunaya share house; first is that there’s plenty of opportunity to communicate with foreigners without going abroad, and second is that you can widen your relationship with other Kizunaya group share house residents. I heard that foreigners from various countries have already joined as a member of the share house. Kizunaya share house has its’ share house in Tokyo, Chiba, Osaka, and Amami (in Kagoshima). Usually communication concludes in the share house you live in, but Kizunaya considers all area residents as one group. Therefore, gathering events of all areas are held once in a while and they say that this helps residents become like a relatives.

“Kizunaya share house –Global HUB-”, the attractive share house which enables people to interact with foreigners naturally in daily life and help you study as if you’re in abroad. Why don’t you take a chance to acquire international relation as part of your daily life?

Soaking yourself in English

I assume that a lot of people have wants to experience the foreign cultures and natures. Well, what would you do to learn English? There’s plenty of ways to learn without actually going abroad, such as altering language setting to English on your smartphone, take online classes, watch TV shows on Netflix, and so on. The problem is that you cannot feel the difference if you don’t continue. Of course, to acquire something, you need duration and continue the work, but wouldn’t it be great if you could learn efficiently? Imagine if you could use English every day as if you take a shower…. It is possible to create situation that you must use English in daily life in Japan by living with foreigners. From this aspect, I will introduce you today the English centered share house among all others.

Find out more about “First house Mizonokuchi 100+b”

Most of the residents are from abroad! “First house Mizonokuchi 100+b”

Inter wow Inc. is a corporation that runs various sized share house around Tokyo and Yokohama area. “First house Mizonokuchi 100+b” is a new comer. It opened this May and can have up to 40 residents. It is gradually getting occupied after 3 months from opening. The character of share house depends by the people who live there. The residents here are 60% foreigners and we can definitely say that this is a hyper international share house. For your information, sister house “First house Mizonokuchi 100+a” which had opened last year is just around the corner. The source of the house names are combination of the number of accommodable residents of a and b, which makes it 100.

Unified theme of design is “American Vintage

The open living room area is divided into 5 different sections. You may choose depending on the situation like dining, chit chatting, or spending time alone. The living rooms have lots of furniture made of leathers and irons. They are from furniture shops in Jiyugaoka and Futakotamagawa, both known as fashionable town in Tokyo. They have chosen dark tone wood for the floor to make the rooms’ look wild and vintage.

Communication is all about “having fun”.

This play area is like American dinner, the one you see in TV action shows . It has a whole new image. Record jackets on the wall and block check designed tiles make this place definitely photogenic. In fact, your friends will ask where you are right now by posting the photo on SNS. The billiard table at the center is popular among residents. Beginner can start by asking how to play, and there’s high chance of naturally getting along with others. You will get better at it too. Sometimes they do country matches! Imagine, isn’t it exciting?

Big island type kitchen; usable for many people at the same time.

This may be a familiar picture to you. Yes, it is a western type kitchen. The table is stand-alone type so more than 1 person can use the kitchen at the same time. You can take a sneak peek of what everyone is cooking!

☆

Residents’ voice ~People living in the First house Mizonokuchi +b~

The two in the picture is Felix from Germany (on the left) and Amanda from America (on the right), both the residents here. Surprising facts came up through this interview. Various nationalities exist in the house, and surprisingly some of them came to Japan to join internships. Interns tend to be young aged and no exception for Felix. Japanese look much younger at the same age, doesn’t it!

Amanda from New York, USA has been living in Japan for three months now. She wished to live near big city like her hometown and chose this place, near Shibuya. She is temporarily absent from college and came to Japan to study about car business by joining internship at the firm. Students joining internship mostly have chose Japan as their first choice. By living with Japanese in the same share house makes foreigners easy to learn more about culture, history, and their language, and vice versa.

They both answered that one of their reason to be interested in Japan is that they like Japanese anime! Manga and animes of Japan are appreciated abroad, more than Japanese imagine. Titles like Dragon ball or Sailor Moon is known by a lot of people from other countries. They have studied Japanese from the time they were children by watching animes. Talk about manga and anime you like for starter and you may get along well with them!

☆

How’s the daily life here?

When making decisions whether to join the share house or not, you should know about how the residents spend their daily life and how the relations are in advance. You wouldn’t want to feel the gap between the reality and the image you had. Some Japanese may be concerned that there’s lot of party going on every day or gets noisy every night, but in fact, those things are not to be worried about. Owner has full support and controls the situation.

It is basically quiet around the house except when people gather. Isn’t it surprising? Most cases, it is tend to be busy around the sharing space in the house since people have their own life rhythms and it won’t match one another. It happens not only with lot of foreigners but even if the residents are mostly Japanese. The party held by the owner regularly is also open for their friend too so the whole house will be crowded, but it’s the only exception.

For Amanda, the home is quiet but it is not too silent and people there at home will make her feel safe.

On weekdays, people gather at dinnertime and eat together or play billiard.

Some were cooking at the back kitchen while we were interviewing. Different from the Japanese-driven share house, the house members here tend to act as a group than individually. Don’t worry about not being able to join the existing community. The staff living together at the house will take good care of the new comer and help create new connection between them.

☆

Condensed cross-culture experience in Japan

Although recommended that you to stay there at least half a year to build relationship with other residents and experience things only acquired from share housing, if you’re in certain conditions, it is possible to live here from 1 month term. This may be attractive to some people. Many foreigners have problem concluding contract with apartment owners due to insurance issues. It makes the share house popular for them to live since it doesn’t require guarantor or hire Guarantee Company. Residents stay over a year at share house run by Inter wow Inc. They assume that live-in staff brings good effect for the residents to have smooth communication and build a comfortable environment for all.

There will be some changes but you can expect to meet different people. (Of course it is always sad to say good-bye…) It is rare to build relationships with people of different nationalities in one place. Sometimes former residents join house events and some of them even wish to come back, asking for vacancy.

These two who took their time on interview was also very friendly! Thank you so much for the opportunity!

☆

How did you like it? You may not believe it is located at Mizonokuchi when you visit the First house Mizonokuchi 100+b, with international living room and kitchen and foreign residents. Although official language in the house is English, you can communicate in Japanese with foreigners studying Japanese. Everyone including Europeans and Asians speak English fluently made me realize how we Japanese can’t speak English.

Both the residential staff and the residents themselves solve the anxiety for “comfortableness” that Japanese have. There seems to be no border between residents and the staff, and they all together create a one big community. Inter wow Inc. holds meet-and-greet events with other house residents. I recommend this share house to those who would like to communicate with people with various nationalities and experience the unique culture and sense of values.

You can’t expect stylishness here, but because of the location, you can enjoy the extraordinary life of yours away from the city.

The share house we introduce today is a designer’s house standing by the river located at 9 minutes walk from Tsurukawa station of Odakyu Odawara line. White and black walls made with Galvalume has totally different atmosphere from other properties. Entering inside is a patio that brings openness to the scene. There, you can enjoy growing vegetables in the planter space. You can also find professional stone oven for the pizza. As you can see in the picture, the house is designed to harmonize with nature.

Chez toi Tsurukawa was newly built exclusively as a share house and re-opened in July with a new concept. The new concept is “International relations”. It’s quiet different from the common features like “We gather people from various nations”or “The official language here is English” seen in these kind of share house advertisement that emphasizes on international communication. Details will be explained afterwards!
First, let me show you the designs of the building.

~Details of adopting the concept~

I have been planning on running a share house business with a theme of International relations for a long time. Since there’s a lot of similar share house at the market, I was searching for an answer for the suitable and brimful characteristic style for my very own share house. That’s when I met managers who are exercising business in South East Asia and had opportunity to ask about them of needs when they visit Japan.

Most foreigners who just arrived to Japan cannot afford 50,000-60,000 JPY for rent so they only can choose to stay at the crowded sharing apartments (hostels). Moreover, although they can find jobs that doesn’t require Japanese ability, it also means that they are loosing the chance to learn.

I came to think that it would be great if there were share houses where people like them can learn both Japanese and our culture by interacting with Japanese residents. It is reversal thinking from the most of the share houses that adopt “International relation” for their concept. Therefore, we basically request all the foreigners to speak Japanese in the house.

We plan to adjust the ratio of the foreign residence to 40-50%. For those from other countries, we consider providing Japanese class 1 hour a week.

We have tie-up with retailer providing Japanese lessons towards foreigners, so residents here have opportunity to take classes from the professionals. Lesson is conducted by using web-camera set to living room’s television. The contents are planed to be fun and not too serious like script or work style. We would like to introduce cultural aspects of our daily life that is not taught in ordinary Japanese education system. Then you can expect Japanese people to be surprised how well you know about our culture!

Spring is close by, and as it begins to warm up you can be sure that there are those saying ‘this is the year!’ as they dive into their new goals. Maybe they’ve joined a new sport, or maybe started a new diet? Well, there’s a sharehouse out there with an environment made just for getting you off the couch and moving.

The property is located in Kanagawa prefecture, Aoba ward’s Aobadai. While also a commuter town right next to the big city, it has a relaxing, impressionable atmosphere. The tree-lined streets are beautiful as well. We’d like to introduce a sharehouse that sits about ten minutes away from Aobadai station: ‘Share-residence Aobadai’.

This is a sharehouse based on the concept of training for triathlons. The main lounge houses two types of training machine bikes, and you can even take lessons from a running coach to support your road to a triathlon. Well, not everybody is going to be that serious about their training for triathlons (haha). If, “I want to diet and get up and move!” is your goal, then this sharehouse is just right for you!

And with that, let’s introduce the house!

Share-residence Aobadai, housing a total of 92 households, looks more like your average Japanese apartment complex than a sharehouse. From the station to the actual house, there’s a single road that boasts various stores, from a Tokyuu store to an Ion supermarket, and even a large pharmacy right next door to the sharehouse. You’re pretty likely to buy your food supplies near the front of the station, and your day to day supplies from the pharmacy.

So, how about it? The sharehouse we introduced today is managed by Share Design Inc., operating properties with profound concepts that change the way we think about sharehouses and luxurious facilities, and one sharehouse that stands out among those properties is Share-residence Aobadai. Triathlons + shared living is the main concept of the house, but truthfully that’s just what can be seen face value. Even if you’re not training for a triathlon, the point of the sharehouse is to make a place where you can feel like exercise is now a daily part of your life. Instead of having to do intense training on your own, we feel that you can have fun working out and keep working out.

Share-residence Aobadai has all the necessities completely set-up in your own room, so people who aren’t used to shared living will have less of a barrier to overcome and get the chance to experience single-living and a bit more. If it’s your first sharehouse experience, we recommend this property.

This is the year you make exercise a habit; let’s do it with the people of Share-residence Aobadai.

Trip and traveling is similar word but different in meanings. Purpose of “trip” is sightseeing and the destination is decided from the beginning . On the other hand, “travel” embraces whole process of getting to the destination. Well, at least that’s what I interpret. There are things you can only appreciate at the place, like the nature, experience and communication with local people. Sometimes you can encounter travelers like yourself. Enjoying these kinds of incidents is the best part of traveling.

Focusing on “people”, there are some points you can experience the similar feeling by living in the share house. Feature of the share houses such as rapid change of residents compared to apartment and sharing space for residents to communicate enables to build relationship with many people in short terms. Difference between share house and traveling is the strength of connection. Although the term is said to be short, you will be sharing household for more than half a year with other residents. Meanwhile, bond like a family will be created among residents.

The share house we introduce you today has concept of “travel”. Travel lovers with various personalities are thought to gather at the share house. I have joined the opening event and private viewing precedent to the official opening this spring. Let’s get a sneak peek inside right away!

Tabicco, the huge share house we introduce today is located in calm resident district, 10 minutes walk from Settsu station of Hankyu line in Osaka. It was once a company dormitory.

Up to 30 residents can live here. Entrance is broad enough so you won’t feel stressed out with many people going in and out.

Near the entrance, there’s a concierge’s room which no longer has been used. It is the remains from the company dormitory. Please don’t enter since it has not been used for some time.

The isle on the right leads to living room. The sign says “Reception is here”. Private viewing event was held on the day we visited.

This is the photo of the living space we shot before the event. It’s neat and very clean since it has just opened.

At the center, symbolic tree of tabicco is standing, growing straight to the ceiling. Pictures of memories here at tabicco is planned to be tied to the tree branch. The idea to resemble pictures as a leaf is very unique!

There hangs a hammock besides the tree.

The room looks bigger from this angle. You can go to the kitchen straight from the living room.

There are 3 cooking stoves and 2 IH plates. You probably won’t feel inconvenient event when the timing of cooking overlaps.

A red pot looks nice in the kitchen. Good thing about share house is that there’s full line up of dishes and cooking items needed for living.

From now on, we would like to follow the people gathered for private viewing.

Seeing it for the first time, they seem to be fully interested at the share house.

People are looking into this shower box. Compared to the ordinary share house, you may get the impression that the dressing space is bigger.

Don’t worry! There is bathtub for those who want to soak in.

Near the entrance is a bathroom exclusively for women.

This is it! The bathtub is wide enough to fit 2-3 people at the same time. Big bath is pleasant to take every day.

Enough viewing the 1st floor, let’s move on to the second floor of private rooms.

By climbing up the steps with sunlight pouring

you will get to the room with both bathroom and laundry, and the isle that leads to private rooms.

The bathroom has bidet function and a heated seat!

The layouts are similar on the third floor but space with bathroom is exclusively for women. Slightly special than the second floor!

It’s great to have a big mirror when putting on a make-up

The place has 2 washing machines on the third floor.

And this is the room of the tabicco.

This room is designed as a model room for women.

The wall paper differs in each room so you can pick one of your favorite as long as it’s vacant.

Every room has a closet this big. No worries for people with lots of belongings.

In addition to 3 floors of spaces, there’s rooftop free to use.

Above your head you can see beautiful blue sky of Osaka. They covered up the floor with wood tiles recently. You may enjoy BBQ with your share house family.

Just about the time we finished looking around the tabicco, setting for the event has been completed in the living room.

Beer bottles are lined up. The brands are from all over the world. I see, it’s to travel the world through beer.

Like a wine list, there were lists of the names and character of each beer. You may understand the feeling of drinking local beer when traveling.

The meal served was combination of Osaka and the countries around the world. The base is Takoyaki, the Osaka’s soul food, and there combined different country’s appetites. They were all so delicious and had sold out in a blink of an eye.

Confirming that everybody took a bottle of a beer, along with the toast of manager, opening party begins!

Since some were rare brands, the beer sold out fast, too.

People are strangers but most of them seemed to be friendly. Maybe travel lovers tend to have similar characters.

Taking a seat in the living room, chitchat goes on.

Some guests brought gifts (consumable goods like tissues and detergents) for the opening celebration. Things are very useful at the share house!

At the party, there was a live painting performance.

Painting the message to memorialize the opening of tabicco in a smooth manner with BGM.,

Finished! We took a picture together with the completed work. I didn’t notice there were this many people participating. Party went on with everyone smiling from the beginning to the end.

How did you like it? The share house “tabicco” we introduced today is run by Kizunabito Inc.

They use the best of their knowledge of running 4 share houses of their own brand to build the first share house in Osaka of 30 residents. The core concept of the Kizunaya brand is “Finding second family”. They throw events that enable to deepen the relationship between residents. At tabicco, they plan events with theme of travel as it is the concept of the share house. As for now, it is due to invite teacher every month to hold a cooking class with theme of dishes around the world. You may encounter recipes with less chance of learning and eating without this opportunity. This could make you interested in various countries via food.

For those with great experience in traveling or even beginners, tabicco will provide you a chance to meet people with same interest and further more “making family-like friends”. Travel around the world starts here at tabicco. How about traveling with your share house family?

In recent years Tama Plaza has been in the spotlight as being a hot date location. The large scale shopping mall was constructed as part of the train station redevelopment, and is home to many stylish cafes and restaurants. Walk away from the station and you will find the quiet, tree-lined streets of the residential area. This particular area was modeled after the garden suburbs in London, its large residences and open spaces working in harmony to create a townscape that wouldn’t be out of place in a Hollywood movie.

The location has great public transport access and Shibuya can be reached in 20 minutes without changing trains on the Denentoshi line. The building itself was formerly a newspaper company on the 1F with a company dormitory above. It has now been renovated into 65-room large scale sharehouse, and the look of the intentionally rough interior is very different from its exterior. At first glance it seems like the kind of house that would appeal to men, but upon closer inspection one finds its European touches and floral arrangements to create a unique elegance.

What’s more, the house is filled with all kinds of ‘toys’ and facilities for the mature adult to play with. Residents of this house discover a belonging here and thrive in the excitement it offers.

The brains behind this project, Share Design, specialise in large scale sharehouses and interior design. Each one of their houses is unique in concept and design. Share Residence Tama Plaza is dedicated to fun, a concept which is incorporated throughout the house and it’s design. The idea is for communication to grow through residents having fun and enjoying themselves in the house.

The staff at this company all have skills in different areas. With a former pilot, musician and jazz dancer on board, you may be lucky enough to sit in on a lecture on these topics and more using the facilities in the house.

Teach others what you know, and learn from them what you don’t. With this kind of reciprocal environment in the house, everyday is bound to be full of exciting times. Would you fit in here?

–What do you think is the appeal of Yakushima?

Muroya The main appeal is of course the magnificence of nature, as its World Heritage site listing can attest to, however the overwhelming beauty of the air and water here is also breathtaking. Also, the moderate level of humidity is good in particular for females concerned about beauty and skincare. Matsunuma once returned to Tokyo after living here for a while and got compliments on his youthful looking skin.

Matsunuma I got told my skin looked as smooth as a baby’s bottom! (laughs)

Now “Kamakura “ is the sightseeing city both Japanese and foreign people love and 23 million people visit each year.
This town which built one generation and is filled with hisitorical atomosphere has many shirines and temples which remains the mood of that days and Shonan sea where many people enjoy gathering in summer.
Also, the sharehouse we introduce this time is situated in the middle of the tourist resort in Kamakura.
The house is 5 minute walk from “Hase “station on Enoden line famous for Hasedera which is filled with bigleaf hydrangea in rainy season.

You can go to the beach in 5 to 6 minutes on foot. There is Amanawashinmeimiya, the oldest shrine in Kamakura, next to it.
The God enshrined in the shrine is Amaterasuomikami. At the bottom of the stone stairs, there is a “well where Tokimune Hojo was bathed when he was born”. At high place where building of the shrine is located, you can have a bird’s eye view of Yuigahama and Hase.
Across the shrine is a house where Yasunari Kawabata who received Nobel Prize had lived.
This Amanawashinmeimiya is a shrine that appears in part of his novel “Yamanooto”.
You can feel history and culture of Kamakura deeply here.

The building used as a sharehouse this time is an old and large house that had been build for more than 80 years ago. It was revived as a new house by taking over the history after the large renovation. The residential part only has been completed so far. However, it will open as the cafe space. It provides a place where the tenants feel relaxed. It is the sharehouse that is focused on in this autumn we expect greatly as a place where the new Kamakura culture is issued. Let’s see in the house now!

The share house introduced here is managed by Safari B Company. Mr. Yokoyama, the representative, is also famous for being ‘a master who travels’, having devoted himself for traveling and motorbikes since he was 19 and travelled around the world for nearly 5 years. He still continues traveling in and outside Japan while managing the real estate business. His travel experiences makes what he is and has a significant influence on his business; his motto is to “create apartments and condominiums where people gather and talk to each other regardless of race”.

The sharehouse we introduced this time is exactly where that kind of feeling is condensed.
I was wondering if it might change to the place where new culture is born while taking over the history and climate of Kamakura.

I imagine that many people dream leading life by working and enjoying leisure here.
Why don’t you consider it to be not a dream and ideal but a place where you set your main life style here?
You can set it by expecting that it is a place where many people voluntarily come as a place where information of new Kamakura culture is issued.
